And the Lord said, " Read Tube of Plenty."

This section of the Tube was just a little boring at times but I think it was still full of some really good stuff that we could make modern day comparissons with. For example, when TV started making its first big appearances the whole economy got raddled. Especially movie theatres, they lost hundreds of them nationwide and the TV hadnt beeen around that long. Sporting events also suffered along with popular radio shows. I tried to make a modern day comparisson with the internet, and what I came up with was piracy. The movie and music industry hve been helped but mostly hurt buy the internet. So I thought that was interesting. The Red Scare was becoming a huge deal. Those outspoken about the scareblamed Hollywood figures because they believed they were using these forms of entertainment like TV to get their message out to the public. Today we're always seeing the newest Al Queda video in a cave somewhere and we're always hearing how the internet is making these guys stronger and smarter and more capable of excecuting their plans. Good Night and Goodluck.

Dude, pass the Tube.

Once again my theory that World War two created everything is revieling its truthfulness. The technolgy created during the war really helped jump start TV. Even though they said that this would stall TV's progress, which it did, in the long run it helped by letting companies jockey for position and improve on existing technologies. Im also fascinated with World Fairs. RCA said they woould reveal there new creation at the world's fair. I guess along time ago that was the place to show your new technology. Do we still have these?

Veteran piece

Art Peterson is a World War two veteran who served in the 101st airborne. He jumped into France on D-Day, and took place in the invasion and the different operations from there. He then found himself at Bastogne in the Arden forest during the battle of the Bulge where he encountered extreme weather and fighting.

I think Mr. Peterson would be a good person to interview because he has been to our school before and is very clear and articulate. He would also have some veryinteresting stories to tell. He is Hispanic so that is also unique and that could be a topic in itself. Since he went through so much in World War two we could choose from a huge variety of topics.

Ifvmy memory serves me correctly I believe he has a purple heart and a distinguished service cross. So that could also be interesting to look at.

Tube of awseomeness

Reading tube of plenty is pretty interesting. At times things seem sarcastic and other times they seem like they're just making it up. I cant really explain it but its pretty awesome. I liked how the presidential race was being intertwined with the creation of Tv. I also really enjoyed reading about the star up of NBC. How all of those companies fell under another's control and how they finally reached an agreement to create all of the television stations onto one system to eliminate confusion.

e-mail security

Levi I need your help because I'm not able to access google groups, so I have to write my HW on the blog...(sigh). Chris your going to interview Matt and ask him the standard questions that we're going to ask Bill and Beth( who I'll interview).

What e-mail service do you use? Why did you choose that service? Do you have personal info an your e-mail that could be harmful to you if it was releaseed? Do you feel like it is secure, if so why, if not why not? Did you hear about the Palin story, what did you think?( You can ask Matt if he can talk about the future of internet security.)

As for the outline, I feel like our group still needs to meet once more so that we can have a complete understanding of what we're doing, I'd say like 15 minutes in class would do, we just really didnt have any time to talk on Monday. I dont know if that would be alright with you, but it would help us out.

The Pitch...

E-Mail security. Finding the Balance.

We are going to start off the story by talking about E Mail. Almost every person around has an Email address, whether they use it or not. A lot of people share personal information through E mail and they should be able to because it is secure right? Well apparently not. Then we are going to touch briefly on the Sarah Palin incident, I mean she was a vice presidential candidate using a yahoo account. Anyway then we will get to the main point of our story.

To get an email address you have to fill out password and forgot password questions. Thats the norm and everyone is used to this. But, what the trouble is now is that the people in charge of these email services are finding it difficult to make a balance between securing your mail so noboby can get to it, while at the same time making it easily accesble to someone who has forgotten their email or user name. Because if its to easy then your email could be hacked into. If its too hard then people cant get back into their accounts.

We'll interview Matt, who is our resident computer genius, and ask him a variety of quetions on how the balance could be reached. We'll ask to regular average jooes probably one student and one teacher if they would rather be safe or be able to access their accounts once they cant get back in again.

And here we go...

So I read the first chapter of tube of plenty. I've got to say first impressions are pretty good. I think that the book flows well, and its stories are interesting and engaging. I especially enjoyed the whole piece about Marconi. To think that such a person could come up with such a ground breaking new technology, it really boggles the mind. One part I really enjoyed was when his parents saw some of his first expiraments through wireless transmission, and they didnt see the significance of it. I thought that was pretty incredible, I mean, could you imagine discovering something like that before the turn of the century... Ha Ha I know I cant.

No tube...

So I guess Amazon.com just completely lied to my face when they told me it would be here in 2 days, now theyre saying tommorow but I dont know if thats right or just a randomly generated number that the computer came up with. So I didnt do the reading. As for my equpiment list; I guess we could use any pair of headphones because our budget is already pushing the school to its breaking point, and I dont think we need to go all out on that. Im almost certain that the new mics that we have at school will work so we shold be ok there. I had an idea for our report, I dont think its very plausible but it would be kinda funny to look at and explore, What is the difference between going to a public high school and going to a private high school? Thats all for this post, Good Night and Good Luck.

The media is en fuego.

I really enjoyed this movie. I thought that the acting was very good and the cinematography was dead on for the theme. This was the secong time that I watched the movie so I was able to pick up on a lot more stuff which was very helpful. So I decided to watch the evening news KCAL 9. What I discovered was quite odd. KCAL 9 had a huge opening intro video with hurricanes floods, shootings, Fighter jets and a whole bunch more crap flying around the screen. Looking back on the movie the whole show consisted of Murrow in a dark room and the occasional cut away to video. So thats pretty different. Also, KCAL 9 had probably 8 or so different stories that they covered in the 10 minutes that I watched, Murrow had pretty much one topic and a deep insight into the story. KCAL was basically unbiased in the stories that I watched as where Murrow had his own opinion. Honestly though I ve got to say, in class you asked if everyone had to choose between watching one or the other which would they watch. Everyone said Murrow, but I think if you reall sat them down and made them choose to watch one or the other almost everyone including myself would probably watch the modern day version because we would all get way to bored with Murrow. Thats not a bash on him its just how we're brought up to watch tv nowadays, we want action and drama with lots of pictures, and not the insightful Murrow style program of the past.

Good Night and Good Luck... yeah.

Ive already seen this movie but Ill just talk about the parts that weve seen. First off I really like the choice to shoot the movie in BW because it gives it that old school feel. Sometimes adding the BW effect can make it look like you were trying to force the old look on your audience but the movie doesnt give that impression. The music is appropriate and tasteful. There are several scenes to where the movie is played with no sound and just music with a chaotic event happening in the background these moments capture you and make you feel like your right there.

As for the actual story, well I think its great. The fact that Murrow would go after someone that powerful was very admirable. To go after someone who had that much power over the media was very brave. In todays world we have a lot more media sources so for a person to really control the media now probably wouldnt happen.

The smoke of god...

The deal is this. They count the ballots and if they have reached a decision they burn zed ballots and the smoke comes out white. If a decision has not been reached they put a chemical on the burning ballots which turns the smoke black.

super sexy survey.

These survey questions are part of my homework for DIGITAL VOYAGE CLASS! Ahoy!

Q: If you are bored at home do you go to the internet first or do you go and watch TV.?

Q:Would you rather be famous from the internet or from TV?

Q:Do you learn more from TV or the internet?

Q:What do you believe was a greater invention?

Q:If you had to destroy TV or the internet which would you choose?

My Vans, Batman, and Daniel Day Lewis

So I got these new Vans, which my friend bought for me, and wow I actually feel like a someone now because I'm wearing these really cool shoes, and even though they they kinda hurt sometimes Ill still where them.

Also I was just chatting with Joshua, who is sitting next to me also blogging and we came to the conclusion that the only way that the Batman series could top Dark Knight would be if they had Christian Bale as Batman and also as the villain. Dont know who it would be but I dont think that matters. Also Daniel Day Lewis needs to get in on the Batman series...yah then life would be good.

Tropic Thunder

So I saw Tropic Thunder, and it was so fricken funny. I mean it was like one of those movies where i finished it and as I was walking out of the theatre I thought to myself, wow I want to see that again. I mean I was lying in bed at night and I was seriously laughing as I was going to sleep. Whatever you do, go and see this movie please give Ben Stiller more money so that he can make more good movies...seriously.
